Greetings – May 2017
Those who were able to make it to the April AEE-NE Energy Marketplace Conference know it was a great success. Thank you to all our sponsors for making it possible. The event seems to get better every year and with feedback from both sponsors and attendees, we have a number of ideas to make the next Energy Marketplace even more valuable for all. We are looking forward to next year's event already!
The rest of this spring and summer will be extremely busy for the chapter: Our May 10th meeting this year will include:
- the tour of a leading biopharmaceutical company (AstraZeneca);
- the Annual Golf Tournament will be held June 8th at Shaker Hills;
- the NEBFM Show in Boston on June 14-15; and
- the Chapter Awards format and scoring will start in July.
The AstraZeneca tour on May 10th in Waltham will include a networking registration hour with heavy appetizers and a cash bar, located by its beautiful atrium seating. AstraZeneca has graciously invited us to view some laboratory space, walk the cogen and central plant, and hear from Bruce MacGregor to learn more about AstraZeneca’s cutting edge efficiency efforts. May 2017 Program - Facility Tour of AstraZeneca in Waltham
AstraZeneca is an industry leading pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical company with a state of the art facility in Waltham, MA. AEE New England invites you to join us on a walking tour of the laboratory space and central plant with Cogeneration capabilities.
Bruce MacGregor, CEM will be providing a presentation of AstraZeneca's energy efficiency efforts and results over his tenure there, with a drill down into specific measures of interest. Heavy appetizers will be served with a cash bar and networking hour prior to the beginning of the presentation and tour.

Walking tour of central plant with cogeneration capabilities.
Note: Parking will be available in the garage adjacent to the central utility plant. The garage is just a 3 minute walk from the main entrance.

This agency oversees all the efficiency and renewable energy programs in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Their website has much information on programs, grants, and policy developments that impact our industry.
- Massachusetts Energy Efficiency Advisory Council (MA EEAC),
The EEAC works with the MA utilities and Program Administrators to establish and oversee the goals and budgets of the MA energy efficiency programs.

The RIEE&RMC works with National Grid (the only RI utility) and other stakeholders to establish and oversee the goals and budgets of the RI energy efficiency programs.
- Efficiency Maine
This is the statewide energy efficiency agency for Maine that offers rebates, incentives, and other programs for businesses and consumers. Their website also has information about trainings and links to other resources.
- Restructuring Roundtable
The Restructuring Roundtable is held 5-6 times per year and presents current topics related to energy efficiency, energy supply, renewable, and public policies. WPI Online Energy Management Course May 2017
WPI has a long history of supporting utility professionals in Masters programs in Business and Power Management. I will be teaching a course in Energy Management at WPI this summer with professor Will O'Brien. The course will involve performing an energy audit on a building and developing an Energy Management Plan For that building. We have developed templates to help facilitate the audit. The audit deliverable will be between an ASHRAE Level I & II audit and serve as the basis for the energy management plan. In addition students will be required to take online courses through Schneider Electric University.
The Online Course Energy Management - BUS 598 SP TOP Instructors: Will O'Brien & Ron Gillooly Office Hours from 6-7 p.m. Mondays Starting May 15, 2017 to July 17, 2017
This course includes a project of conducting an actual energy audit and developing a related energy management plan for a selected building making cost-effective recommendations to improve efficiency.
