October 2018 Meeting - Data Analytics and Energy Efficiency

In commercial buildings, it is estimated that annual building energy use can be cut by an average of 29%, or ~4-5% of overall national energy consumption through corrections to existing buildings controls infrastructure and resulting improvements to operating efficiency1. Building data analytics has become a more relevant need to the building design community and energy efficiency building goals. As more information and data becomes available through these building systems as well as the improvement in the models and analytics that use this building data the hope is that deeper energy savings can be achieved.  Building data analytics systems and their providers offer the potential for building owners and operators to perform continuous monitoring, provide fault detection and diagnostics (FDD), and deliver information on the operation of the building assets.  These systems which incorporate the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud-based computing can identify energy savings projects and inform on measured energy savings.

This meeting will be a great opportunity to gather building energy experts to present and discuss the impact of deeper building analytics and FDD systems on our profession and on our customers.  We look forward to seeing you at this event.

The multi-speaker presentation will provide:

1. An overview of the capabilities offered by data analytics system providers and sectors served by these providers

2. Discussion on the science of data analytics, FDD methods, applications for data analytics, and upcoming advances in data analytics systems and IoT technology

3. A customer experience using data analytics to perform monitoring-based commissioning
